WILD BLUEBERRIE SMOOTHIE

One way you can help protect your health over the busy season of holidays, is to ensure you’re still getting plenty of the world’s most powerful food in your diet—wild blueberries. The smoothie recipe I’m sharing with you today gives you a simple and convenient way to make sure you’re incorporating the unmatched healing power of wild blueberries over the holidays with the use of Wild Blueberry Powder (see recipe below.) Even if you’re on the go or traveling and not able to make smoothies yourself, you can take your Wild Blueberry Powder with you and add it to water or to boost a smoothie you pick up at a smoothie bar. It can also be added on top of a fruit bowl or you can dip ripe bananas straight into the powder for a fun snack!

The Unknown Benefits of Wild Blueberries

As I share in my book Life-Changing Foods, there is not a cancer that wild blueberries cannot prevent, nor a disease known to humankind that wild blueberries do not protect you from. Do not confuse wild blueberries with their larger, cultivated cousins, which, while great for your health, don’t offer even a fraction of wild blueberries’ power. Currently, wild blueberries are acknowledged by nutrition experts for their sky-high levels of antioxidants. It goes beyond that—they have the highest proportion of antioxidants of any food on the planet. On top of that, these tiny jewels have a plethora of undiscovered qualities. For one, they’re armed with dozens of antioxidant varieties that science does not yet know about, along with polyphenols, anthocyanins, anthocyanidins, dimethyl resveratrol, and as yet unknown cofactor adaptogenic amino acids.

BANANA “MILKSHAKE” (no dairy)

Bananas have gotten a bad rap lately, blamed for being too high in sugar. The reality is that the sugar in a properly ripened banana is completely different from the cane sugar and other processed sweeteners in cookies, cakes, and doughnuts. Unlike processed sugar, the fruit sugar in bananas is bonded to critical life-supporting trace minerals such as manganese, selenium, copper, boron, and molybdenum, and large amounts of minerals such as potassium, which is one of the most critical nutrients for neurotransmitter function. Bananas are also high in amino acids that work side by side with the highly bioavailable potassium as a catalyst for abundant electrolyte production. Rather than thinking of bananas as all sugar, we have to remind ourselves that bananas are made up of fiber, pulp, and water, too—and that their fruit sugar content is the very reason bananas have rich supplies of antioxidants, vitamins, and other phytonutrients to help us fight disease.
Bananas are a powerful antiviral food—so powerful that they have the capacity to repel growth of the retrovirus HIV. High in tryptophan, bananas can help soothe sleep disorders, create calm, reduce anxiety, and alleviate depression. And those who worry about Candida have no need to fear bananas. They are the ultimate fungus destroyers, removing unproductive bacteria while feeding beneficial microorganisms in the intestinal tract. This also makes them B12-enhancing, because microbes in the gut can interrupt the ileum’s rightful process of producing vitamin B12.
When it comes to digestive aids, nothing beats bananas. They are truly an anti-spasmodic for hyperactive colons and small intestinal tracts. Bananas can alleviate gastric cramps and stress-related gastrointestinal dis- orders; they are a secret weapon in reversing colitis, IBS, and Crohn’s disease. Bananas are also wonderful blood sugar stabilizers, have stress-assist phytochemicals to get you through your day, and help you balance your weight no matter where you are on the spectrum.

CONDITIONS
If you have any of the following conditions, try bringing bananas into your life:
Colitis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, autoimmune disease, heart disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), adrenal fatigue, Alzheimer’s disease, bipolar disorder, diabetes, carpal tunnel syndrome, depression, diverticulitis, gallbladder disease, hemorrhoids, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), infertility, Parkinson’s disease, arthritis, attention-de cit/ hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), low reproductive system battery, sleep disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), fungal infections, shingles, tendonitis, anxiety, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, edema.

SYMPTOMS
If you have any of the following symptoms, try bringing bananas into your life:
Loss of taste and/or smell, weight gain, weight loss, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) issues, enlarged spleen, blurred vision, fatigue, Candida overgrowth, diabetic neuropathy, bruising, tachycardia, constipation, bloating, diarrhea, headache, apnea, blurry eyes, blood sugar imbalances, food sensitivities, ear pain, jaw pain, muscle weakness, anxiousness, sensations of humming or vibration in the body, abdominal cramping, abdominal pain, Bell’s palsy, back pain, tingles and numbness.

EMOTIONAL SUPPORT
Bananas strengthen the core of who we are, encouraging us to peel back our false shields and expose our true selves. They can help reverse a state of mind that’s saturated with fear (eating three or more a day can help reduce PTSD), and they help us express our true desire to be productive, overcoming procrastination and other unproductive behaviors in the process. If you think a friend is holding on to resentment, offer her or him a banana, and it will help dissolve the feelings of ill will.

SPIRITUAL LESSON
At times of spiritual growth, we may find ourselves feeling indestructible and completely absorbed in the moment. If we’re not careful, though—if we haven’t planned ahead and fortified ourselves for the future—the strong wind of challenge may take us down.
Learn, then, from the banana plant. Not technically trees, banana plants form thick and wide root mats, with underground corbs (stems) continually surfacing as suckers ready to grow. Because banana “trunks” are not actually wood—rather, they’re formed from layer upon layer of leaves—they grow fast, with new offshoots able to rush to the rescue whenever weather has taken down another stalk.
As you reach for the sky, blossom, and bear fruit, remember to cast your own root system wide and deep. Let every lesson learned become a spiritual offshoot that may someday rescue you.

TIPS
* While you may like your bananas hard and green or mushy and brown, the optimal stage at which to eat bananas for peak nutrition is peak ripeness. When a banana’s skin is still green, enzymes prevent absorption of any of the fruit’s nutrients. And an overripe banana with entirely brown or black skin contains fermented fruit. The safest point at which to eat a banana is when its skin is yellow, with brown speckles. (The definitive test is that the banana won’t give you a fuzzy feeling on your tongue.)
* Bananas are the best food for travel—whether on long car rides, flights, or errands around town. When you know you have a trip coming up, buy bananas ahead of time so they’ll be at just the right stage of ripeness when you need them.
* Bananas are also the most powerful exercise food. Eating a banana before and after exercise can replenish the body more than any other food out there.

BANANA “MILKSHAKE”
This “milkshake” is the classic childhood favorite without the dairy—and you won’t miss it, because the drink is cold, creamy, and perfect. The hint of fresh vanilla bean and the dusting of cinnamon make it even more incredible.
1 1/2-inch piece of vanilla bean pod, split lengthwise
2 frozen bananas
4 fresh bananas
2 dates, pitted
1 cup coconut water
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Scrape the seeds from the vanilla bean pod and place them in a blender.
* Place the remaining ingredients in the blender; blend until smooth and drink up!
*Save the exterior of the vanilla bean pod for use blended into a smoothie or dessert. (Note that a high-speed blender will be necessary to break it down thoroughly.)
Makes 1 to 2 servings.

OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER (OCD)

For anyone struggling with severe Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), life can feel like a living nightmare. My heart goes out to those suffering because making it through each day with this condition can feel like a brutal and lonely battle. It is often challenging for someone who does not struggle with OCD to make sense of this condition. Some people may even judge it as ridiculous or insane, but just because a person suffers from OCD does not mean he or she is mentally ill. The reason people often think about this condition in a negative way is because they do not know the true underlying causes or understand the condition. Learning and spreading the truth about OCD that I share here can help combat any negative stigma surrounding the condition, and help those suffering to finally get the the answers they need to heal.

All Shapes & Sizes

There is not just one type of OCD. Medical communities are unaware that there are hundreds of varieties that manifest in different ways. Many people don’t even realize they are suffering from a mild, hidden form of OCD and may even be incorrectly led by a medical doctor or psychologist to believe that their unique issue stems from something other than OCD. Something as simple as having a comfort zone with specific parameters could be a mild form of OCD. Someone growing incredibly upset or angry by a minor shift in his or her daily routine could be another example of mild OCD. If even a slight shift in a daily rhythm, routine, or habit causes you severe irritation, anger, or distress, you may unknowingly be suffering from a variety of OCD.

In the United States, between three and four million people have been diagnosed with OCD. This is far from the actual number of people suffering, which is at least 150 million in the US alone. Medical science and medical research are rarely (if ever) correct when it comes to revealing statistics that accurately highlight the number of people suffering with chronic mystery symptoms and conditions.

This is because these mystery illnesses are not properly understood in the first place so statistics can not reflect them accurately. So when it comes to OCD, it is critical that all the sufferers around the world, including the over 150 million people in the United States, learn the causes behind their condition and symptoms and the steps they can take to support healing.

The Causes of OCD

There are two distinct groups of OCD, a truth that you won’t learn anywhere else. Countless variations stem from each of these groups. One of these groups spawns from emotional wounds or soul trauma, such as physical or emotional abuse. The second group is due to the presence of toxic heavy metals in the brain. It is also possible to have OCD behaviors that stem from both emotional wounds or soul trauma and toxic heavy metal exposure. The blend of both can result in some extremely challenging OCD behaviors, and make it even more difficult for those suffering.

Group One: Emotional Wounds & Soul Trauma

A severe emotional blow can trigger off OCD behaviors in some individuals. How someone copes with emotional stress and his or her unique sensitivities play a part in whether or not he or she develops OCD. For some people, even mild emotional injuries can create the emotional wounds and soul trauma that lead to OCD behaviors.

Situations that can create emotional wounds and soul trauma include the death of a family member or loved one, betrayal by someone or something you deeply love or value, the shattering of long-standing hopes, a devastating physical injury or illness, bullying in school, or parents divorcing. High stress situations or confrontations of almost any kind can also play a part. These examples are not meant to point blame at a particular person or people in your life. Rather, they are given to help highlight events in your life that might have played a role in creating emotional wounds and soul trauma that you can now work to heal. Some researchers and experts may already be discussing the idea that, in certain cases, emotional traumas can create OCD. But what these professionals do not yet understand is that when an individual feels intense emotional pain or repeated stress, this emotional strain can lead to certain areas of the brain overworking. In these overworked areas, intensely heated electrical charges can cause the root problems that create OCD behavior.

To highlight how OCD can begin to emerge in an individual, imagine the example of being bullied in school. The first time you are bullied, electrical charges in a certain part of the emotional area of the brain will heat up. This heat subsides once the bullying episode ceases, although you may suffer from mild post-traumatic stress disorder. A few days later you are bullied once again. Immediately, electrical charges heat up that same area of the brain. Fortunately, this area again cools down once the bullying ceases. Perhaps bullying occurs a third, fourth or fifth time, and the same part of the brain experiences intense heat during each episode.

Continuous, intense heat to this area without ample time for the body to heal can lead to calloused brain tissue for adults and children alike. Medical science and medical research have not yet discovered this widespread phenomenon. Have you heard the term hotheaded? Well, it may actually be an accurate description in certain instances. Bullying is not the only situation that creates this intense heat. The physical burnout that occurs can arise from a number of emotionally heavy events and result in a small area of calloused brain tissue.

The area of the emotional center of the brain in which this physical burnout occurs depends on the emotional event or stressor you endure. The body handles each event and stressor differently and the area of the brain that experiences this heat depends on the unique situation. The reason this type of burnout occurs in particular areas of the brain is to protect the body from suffering greater health issues.

In the areas where a thin layer of callused tissue has formed, neurons become hypersensitive and create a foundation for OCD behaviors to arise. This tiny callused spot can hinder the billions of electrical nerve impulses that dart around your brain from effortlessly traveling through this area on the way to their destination. These electrical impulses, which are able to think for themselves and carry along critical information, believe there is nothing wrong with your brain tissue.

They also carry a part of your soul and will. All of this is completely unknown and medical research and medical science are still decades away from discovering this. For this reason, when an electrical impulse is unable to travel through this callused area on the first attempt, it will determinedly try again. Although technically there is nothing wrong with the brain tissue, the thin callused layer has created a blockade that the electrical impulse cannot comfortably cross. As the electrical impulse makes multiple attempts to move through this altered region, a variety of OCD may emerge.

Racing thoughts can be one variety of OCD you may experience if your brain has experienced this type of burnout. You may also feel compelled to perform acts on yourself such as washing your hands numerous times, repeatedly washing your feet, or showering with extreme frequency. If you aren’t able to perform a behavior you may find that you feel extremely agitated or distraught. Hoarding, which is actually an unknown variety of OCD, also falls into this category of OCD. Some other varieties within this group that people frequently battle include extreme self doubt, self loathing, insecurities, and a lack of confidence. Medical research, medical science, and mental health professionals are completely unaware that many of these issues fall within this widespread condition.

Group Two: Toxic Heavy Metals in the Brain

At present-day, everyone is exposed to some degree of toxic heavy metals. As I brought to light in my first book Medical Medium, we also inherit toxic heavy metals from the generations of family members before us. This isn’t a genetic issue. It’s simply the passing on of these heavy metals at conception and in the womb. Unfortunately, if a certain amount of mercury, aluminum and/or copper settles close enough to the endocrine glands in the brain, or the emotional highway or emotional center of the brain, a variety of OCD may arise. Mercury is often a key component when it comes to creating a variety of OCD that falls within group two. The severity of the OCD variety often depends on the amount of toxic heavy metals in the brain. If someone suffers from mild OCD, he or she may only have a minimal amount of aluminum and mercury in his or her system, rather than sizable amounts of aluminum, mercury, and copper.

As I shared above, the electrical impulses that run across neurons in your brain possess a tremendous amount of information as well as energy of both your soul and will. Your desire to wake up in the morning, go to work, protect your family, breathe, survive, or save a life is all connected to your will, and a piece of this can be found in your electrical impulses. As mentioned previously, medical research and medical science have no idea that these currents contain that kind of intelligence and data, and will not stumble upon this fact for many decades.

The OCD varieties found in this group emerge when the electrical impulses running across neurons in the emotional center of the brain come into contact with toxic heavy metal deposits. Mercury and other toxic heavy metals short out electrical impulses. One reason for this is that the electricity running on mineral salts is different than the electricity that drives through metal. After running up against the metal for a period of time, the intelligent electrical impulse will eventually decide to take a different path to get to its destination. But prior to this, the electrical impulse will repeatedly ram against the metal deposit in an attempt to follow its usual pathway. This repeated meeting of the toxic heavy metal and electrical impulse can trigger OCD behaviors.

The electrical impulse is desperate to get the information it contains to the necessary destination, so that no serious health consequences such as a stroke or TIA arise. Unfortunately, once the electrical impulse decides to find another path around the heavy metal deposit, it may run into other roadblocks and hindrances that may create new quirks in an individual. For example, an electrical impulse may go around the mercury deposit it was initially running into and wind up running into a closely located deposit of aluminum. If a person has experienced emotional wounds or soul trauma, an electrical impulse looking for a new route around a heavy metal deposit may also run into a bit of callused tissue and trigger varieties of OCD found in the first group discussed.

In a brain with many heavy metal deposits or a lot of callused tissue, an electrical impulse may struggle to carve out a smooth path for itself. Regardless, the persistent electrical impulse will work as hard as possible to deliver its information. If the electrical impulse is not able to navigate around the metal deposit, it is possible that you will lose your ability to function in other ways. A psychiatrist may suggest you take a prescription drug for your quirks or behaviors, but taking a drug might not always be the best choice.

If you are having trouble imagining an electrical impulse running into heavy metal deposits in your brain tissue, try picturing a car driving down the street carrying precious cargo. In the electrical impulse, this precious cargo is pieces of the will, soul, and critical information for your survival. As the car zips along it encounters a blockade of heavy metal barrels filled with cement that have been placed in the middle of the road. Imagine the car slamming into the barrels in an attempt to break through the barrier and carry on. After a few attempts, the driver backs up and realizes he need to find another way. The car, in an attempt to navigate around the barrels, drives onto the sidewalk. It runs over pedestrians, signs, and benches as it tries to traverse this new territory, but it is desperate to deliver this vital information and will do whatever it takes to accomplish its mission. Similarly, the electrical impulse will eventually try to carve out a new pathway for itself no matter how difficult it may be.

If you compulsively lock doors twenty, thirty, forty or more times, you may be struggling with a type of OCD that falls within this group. I’ve worked with clients who have locked their doors before going to sleep at night, but have felt compelled to wake up multiple times throughout the night and check the lock on their doors each time. One person I knew constantly felt compelled to leave work to check his stove even though there was a part of him that knew his stove was already off. This person even tried a technique to prove to himself that the stove was off. He would take a picture of the switched off stove before leaving for work in the morning. Unfortunately, once he arrived at work, he would begin to question the validity of the photograph. Sadly, the person was fired from his job due to his OCD behaviors getting in the way of his work. These are just a few of the moderate cases of OCD I’ve encountered. There are even more severe varieties I’ve witnessed throughout the years. Whether you suffer from a mild form of OCD or a severe variety, know that I have the greatest compassion for your suffering and want to see you heal.

Tips for OCD Sufferers

Changing up your routine can be a challenging, but very beneficial strategy if you are working to heal from OCD. It may be especially hard if someone struggles with agoraphobia and may even feel impossible for some, but the slightest changes can be invaluable. Try staying at a family member’s house or friend’s home for a night.

A week stay at a hotel could be another option for some. Changing up your location, scenery, or routine can actually help to start breaking your OCD. When you return home or go back to your regular routine, you may notice that your OCD is slightly less present. Even after an electrical impulse has found a new route around the heavy metal deposit or callused brain tissue, the habit of the OCD behaviors alone can be challenging to break. For that reason, these OCD behaviors can continue for years after the electrical impulse has found a new pathway, and it is important to start changing up your environment and surroundings even as you work to heal the neurological issues with the foods and supplements I share below.

Supportive Foods

The foods you eat can make an incredible impact on your body’s ability to heal from OCD. Bringing in the five heavy metal detox foods I discuss in Medical Medium and on my blog can be critical for anyone suffering from an OCD variety that stems from the second OCD group. In fact, because all of us are exposed to heavy metals, it can be helpful for everyone to include these foods daily. These five foods are Hawaiian spirulina, Barley Grass Juice Extract powder, Atlantic dulse, wild blueberries, and cilantro.

Wild blueberries can actually help repair callused brain tissue. Definitely try to bring in cantaloupe and mango when these two powerful fruits are available. The undiscovered phytochemicals found in blackberries, strawberries, and raspberries help repair brain tissue. Papaya, a very soothing food, is an important fruit for helping to reduce OCD because its sugars help feed the electrical impulses that need support. Leafy greens such as spinach, mâche, arugula, and butter leaf lettuce can be powerful foods to incorporate in your diet. Sweet potatoes and squashes can be supportive foods as well. Try out different kinds of squash such as butternut, buttercup, delicata, kabocha, sweet dumpling and red kuri for some tasty variation.

Supportive Supplements

Everybody’s OCD condition is unique, and therefore each person’s supplementation protocol will have to be tailored for their specific needs. One person might feel great using a certain supplement while another person might not find as much benefit. It may be beneficial to work with a supportive practitioner to create the best supplement routine for you.

Sam-E can be an incredibly helpful supplement for those suffering from OCD, depression, or anxiety. Talk to your practitioner about taking an ample amount of L-glutamine as well. 5HTP can be helpful for OCD sufferers, however if you are highly sensitive it’s possible it may bother your stomach. Work with a practitioner to figure out if this supplement is right for you. Gingko leaf contains incredible alkaloids that help repair callused brain tissue. Ashwagandha helps support the adrenals and the brain.

OCD can trigger off adrenaline and an addiction to adrenaline can arise alongside OCD behaviors. Supporting your adrenals while you work to heal from OCD is essential. To learn more about adrenaline addiction check out part one and part two of my ‘Addictions’ radio show. Using lemon balm tea or a non-alcoholic tincture to help calm and soothe the nerves can be a life-changing supplement for someone with OCD. California poppy can be an amazing supplement when combating varieties of OCD, especially those that fall within the emotional wounds and soul trauma group. Even if you enjoy fish or meat in your diet, avoid omega-3 fish oil supplements, which can cause great harm to your brain. I discuss this in my first book Medical Medium and share why fish oil is so problematic. Instead, bring in a plant-based omega-3, which can actually offer ample benefits. Some other helpful supplements to consider bringing into your proctol include B-12 with methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin, GABA, 5MTHF, and a calcium magnesium blend. Check out my list of preferred supplements on my website.

Regardless of the diet you choose to follow, bringing in some of these supplements and foods can offer tremendous support for any OCD sufferer. Do not let a staunch belief system hold you back from experiencing the healing you deserve.

Moving Forward

My hope is that this information can bring comfort and inspiration to those suffering from OCD and others who have to watch their loved ones struggle with this difficult condition. Just by reading through this article you have taken one step forward in your healing journey. Now you know how to support the electrical impulses running through your intricately beautiful brain. Awareness is a huge piece of healing and now that you have this accurate information with effective tips and tools and supportive foods and supplements, you can begin moving towards healing and free yourself from the hardships triggered by emotional wounds, soul trauma, and toxic heavy metals.

Imagine your life without racing thoughts, crippling self doubt, a host of insecurities, or compulsive behaviors that take away from your extraordinary life. A life free of these things is completely possible! May you take the information from here and other Medical Medium resources and use them to create a life filled with peace, joy, and wellness.

COCONUT CURRY

Coconut, especially in the form of coconut water and coconut oil, has enjoyed some time in the sun in recent years. We hear stories about how coconut water was used as IV fluid for wounded soldiers in World War II, and about health miracles people have experienced by incorporating coconut oil into their diets. Everywhere you turn, it seems, there’s a positive claim about coconut—and rightfully so.
Now let’s get down to what hasn’t yet been discovered: that coconut enhances the power of anything it touches. It has an incredible reach. When combined with any healing food, coconut gets in touch with those benefits and super- charges them. For example, if you add coconut water to a smoothie with parsley, that coconut water increases the parsley’s ability to remove unproductive acids from your body by 50 percent and dramatically improves the effects of parsley’s already beneficial trace minerals. Or if you add coconut meat to a salad, everything else in the salad—cucumbers, lettuce, tomato, spinach, anything that has healing properties— becomes more nutritious and life-changing. Coconut drives a food to fulfill its highest purpose by igniting amino acids, vitamins, and other nutrients, and in doing so, nourishes you so you can perform your life’s purpose and then some—your purpose-plus.
Though you wouldn’t look at a coconut palm tree and think it has much in common with a human, we’re more connected to these plants than you may realize. For one, as that IV story teaches us, coconut water is remarkably similar to human blood. Secondly, coconut palms are tropical—they need warmth. Though humans are scattered all over the globe, we really are tropical beings at our origins. You won’t find someone surviving in a snowy climate without protective body gear and some source of heat. Coconut puts us in touch with that foundational essence of who we are.
Coconut water provides vital glucose and critical mineral salts, including potassium and sodium, to the bloodstream. This is a fundamental component of our neurotransmitter chemical production.

If we don’t have the neurotransmitter chemicals we need, it can lead to insomnia, neurological sleep apnea, and other sleep disturbances. The best thing you can do to avoid these issues is to drink coconut water—it is the best tool of all time for neurotransmitter support. For those who struggle with infertility or other disorders of the reproductive system, take note that coconut water’s trace minerals and electrolytes nourish your reproductive tissue. Coconut water is also incredibly important for people with hypoglycemia and other blood sugar disorders, including diabetes. It’s critical for people with over or underactive adrenals. It’s good for every single brain and neurological disorder. Coconut water can greatly benefit people with Parkinson’s, and it’s also a must for those with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. It’s incredible for helping to prevent the onset of seizures and offers special support for eye conditions.
Coconut meat (and the oil derived from it) is antipathogenic due to its lauric acid content combined with other antioxidants present in it, so turn to coconut when you’re in need of an antibacterial and antiviral food. When coconut drops from the stomach into the intestinal tract, it kills off any pathogen it touches. Plus, its medium-chain fatty acids break loose other fats and aid in pushing them out of the body.

CONDITIONS
If you have any of the following conditions, try bringing coconut into your life:

SYMPTOMS
If you have any of the following symptoms, try bringing coconut into your life:
Heart palpitations, grand mal seizures, arrhythmia, anxiousness, brain fog, blurry eyes, Bell’s palsy, memory loss, weight gain, food allergies, frozen shoulder, jaw pain, neuralgia, all neurological symptoms (including tingles, numbness, spasms, twitches, nerve pain, and tightness of the chest), back pain, blurry eyes, confusion, chemical sensitivities, mineral deficiencies, fatigue, listlessness, malaise, dehydration, headaches, difficulty swallowing, difficulty breathing, connective tissue inflammation, ear pain, foot pain, high blood pressure, sleep disturbances, low platelet counts, nervousness, ringing or buzzing in the ears, urinary urgency.

EMOTIONAL SUPPORT
Do you know anyone who travels through life reacting to everything with the response, “But how does this affect me?” If so, offer her or him coconut in any form. Coconut is for that person who’s narcissistic, self-consumed, and completely saturated in her or his singular world- view. Coconut opens the emotional channel for someone to let go of the self-addiction and weigh others’ needs and values alongside her or his own.

SPIRITUAL LESSON
Coconut palms are quick to drop their coconuts in a storm. This comes from the trees’ wisdom of survival—they can either hold onto the coconuts and risk toppling as the winds whip through, or they can let go of them, and make themselves less vulnerable. It’s a lesson we would all do well to take to heart. When life gets stormy, we sometimes have to let go of what’s most precious to us, and it can feel like the end of the world. Coconut trees teach us that in the end, the sun comes back out, and what matters most is that you’re okay.

TIPS
* When buying coconut water, only get it if it’s clear or very slightly tinged with pink. It’s a misconception that deep pink or reddish coconut water is beneficial—in fact, this is a sign that it’s rapidly oxidizing and going bad. Also avoid any coconut water that contains natural flavors, citric acid, or sweeteners such as agave nectar or refined cane sugar.
*If you’re able to get ahold of some young, green coconuts, try to consume them over the course of a few days. If they sit too long without refrigeration, they’re liable to pop, and you’ll end up with coconut water on your walls and ceiling.
* If you don’t have access to fresh coconuts, some of the best forms to seek out include jarred coconut butter or frozen young coconut meat to use with dishes such as salads. For cooking, use coconut oil.
* Bring coconut into your life if you have a fear of swimming or open water. Coconut trees often grow on the coast, leaning over the water’s edge and dropping their coconuts into the ocean. Coconuts are excellent swimmers; they stay buoyant for long stretches of time and miles upon miles of open sea, taking on knowledge of the ocean as they oat, until they eventually reach a new shore where they can take root. When you consume coconut, you inherit this natural instinct for life on the water, which helps to strengthen you as it alleviates your aquatic anxiety.
* Coconut in the evening is ideal for those who have trouble sleeping during a full moon. The coconut provides extra mineral salts and electrolytes for your neurotransmitters and electrical impulses; this helps defend you from the full moon’s subtle gravitational pull.

YELLOW COCONUT CURRY
This rich, complex curry is the perfect dinner for meals around the table with family and friends. The recipe makes a big batch, so you’ll have enough for a hungry crew, or for leftovers to be eaten throughout the week. Yellow curry is mild and warming, with the mingled flavors of ginger, garlic, and turmeric simmered in coconut milk and loaded with potatoes, carrots, and squash. This dish will become a favorite to return to over and over again.

1 small kabocha squash
8 potatoes
8 carrots
1 tablespoon coconut oil
3 onions, diced
8 garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons grated ginger
2 tablespoons yellow curry powder
3 cups coconut milk
2 teaspoons honey
11/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 cup cilantro
1 lime
Red pepper (optional)

Place the kabocha squash in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, until squash softens slightly. Drain and set aside to cool. Roughly dice the potatoes and carrots and set aside. When the squash is cool enough to handle, slice it in half and remove the seeds. Roughly dice the squash and return to the pot along with the carrots and potatoes. Add 2 inches of water to the pot and bring to a boil. Cover to steam, stirring occasionally. Add more water if needed. Steam until the vegetables are just cooked through.
For the curry, warm the coconut oil in a large pot. Add the onions and sauté over high heat until they are soft and fragrant (about 5 minutes). If needed, add water to prevent sticking. Add the garlic, ginger, and curry powder to the onions, stirring frequently for 1 minute. Add the coconut milk, honey, and salt, and continue stirring. Add the vegetables and bring to a low simmer. Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, until vegetables are tender. Serve the curry topped with cilantro, lime juice, and red pepper, if desired.
Makes 6 to 8 servings.

VEGGIE HUMMUS

Hummus has become a highly popular food in many countries across the world. With it’s creamy texture, delicious, savory flavor and versatility, it’s not hard to understand why.
There are endless variations of hummus, many of which can be healthy choices. However some can contain poor quality oils like sunflower, vegetable and canola oils, along with additives like citric acid and preservatives.
As with all foods, the best way to ensure what you’re eating is truly healthy, is to make it yourself. Traditional hummus recipes use chickpeas as a base, which are a good option, but beans can still cause problems for some people.
A better alternative that’s really delicious is to make your own hummus with a base of vegetables, like raw zucchini. This adds the creamy texture and bulk that chickpeas would normally offer, but is easier to digest and offers extra nutrients.
Today’s recipe gives you a simple and tasty vegetable-based hummus recipe to make at home. One of the best things about this recipe is that no cooking is required, so it can be pulled together in just a few short minutes.
Enjoy this recipe with vegetable crudités, wrapped in lettuce leaves with other fillings, or served with gluten and corn free crackers. It’s perfect for lunch, dinner or a snack…or all of these!
